| Chiefs had themselves to blame for the uncalled-for defeat. They had beaten Wits 4 times before - twice in friendlies and twice in league games. They were favorites to win this cup final but because they were taken aback by a relatively new and rejuvenated Wits. |
| The Phefeni boys were enjoying the better of the exange, but their forwards lost many scoring chances in the early minutes by holding onto the ball for too long. Moses Khanyeza, Chiefs goalkeeper made two blunders by allowing tha ball to slip out of his hands from the boot of Cliff Crouch and Dave Jacobs. Later Chiefs scired through a substitute Leonard "Waga Waga" Likoebe. Chiefs railed more focefully and strongly and Nelson Dladla received a Likoebe pass and scored to level the matters. For a while it seemed the game would end in a draw, but in the dying minutes Jacobs grabbe the clincher. The soccer followers were agressive after the match. Number of people were injured and cars were damaged by unhappy fans. |
