Altough South Africa men and women teams won their respective Afirca qualificiation the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee put more criteria for their quaification. There was a requirement to win World Challenge or to win a intercontinental qualification. So South Africa declined the direct qualification.
Argentina took South African continental place to the Olympic Games, as best ranked non-qualified team.
