The Olympic Stadium and complex designed by the architect Werner March was built between 1934 and 1936 for the Olympiad. The athletic facilities were built on a 131 hectare plateau above the surrounding area. Along both sides of the pools there were stands for about 7,500 spectators. Technical installations, changing rooms and a number of organizational offces were located below the stands. During Olympic Games there were specator stands on the northern side.
